ABOUT THE OWNER
HI, I'M LINDSEY.
This year I am celebrating 3 years since starting this small business and I still can't believe this is my job. I was an elementary teacher for 5 years, and then decided to stay home with my babies while they were little so I ran a daycare out of my home for 7 years. When my youngest was about to head to kindergarten I had to decide what I wanted to do. It was never my plan to go back to teaching and I was ready to have my house back and retire from daycare, but I wasn't sure what my next chapter would be.
During 2020, I started making my own shirts for fun and when I'd wear them my friends and family members would ask if they could buy some. I have no graphic design background. I just enjoyed making simple designs that I thought were cute or funny, and some local designs for our small town. I started selling them on Facebook and it turned out more than just my family and friends took interest.
In February 2021, I created a website, started selling more products and things started to take off. It was awesome to see an interest in my designs and products, but the business grew very quickly and it was hard to keep up. I would work all day doing daycare, and then the minute my kids went to bed at night, I would start working on fulfilling orders. I started doing in-person events on the weekends and am so grateful my husband stepped up so I could do that. It started to become my dream to make Small Town Clothing Company my main job. Lots of hard work and very late nights eventually started paying off.
I retired from daycare in February 2022 to focus on the company full-time. I still work from home, it's just much quieter! (Luckily we got a dog that same year so I have someone to talk to. I am convinced I talk to him way more than would be considered normal.) I am very proud of Small Town Clothing Company and there has not been one day in the last 3 years that I have not thought about this company. There have been many ups and downs and so many lessons learned over the past few years.
Small Town Clothing Company is a true small business. I currently work out of my basement, don't have any employees, and I still create designs on my iPhone using a free app like I did when I first started! All the models you see in pictures are my college roommates, close friends, and neighbors that luckily still agree to work for free t-shirts.
I am a wife and mom of two girls and spend just about the same amount of time driving them around as I do filling orders. We live in neighborhood that feels like life in the 90s. Kids are outside all day playing til dinnertime and people are very patriotic and talk about Jesus. Golf carts, four wheelers, and snowmobiles are everywhere and we love it. When I'm not in New Market, Minnesota enjoying the simple life, I like traveling, going to concerts, and spending time with family and friends.
